STORYBOOK

Your job is to synthesize the information gained from the course to create an online resource for your classmates and others who might view this site. You may use a book of your choice.

1. Select a Great Book-you will need to make sure that you know the book very well! List the information on the Storybook Titles page.
2. Actually READ the book! :-) (get from CUW, Hometown, or your Personal library)
3. Prepare at least 3A, 3B, and 3C (total of 9 )lesson activities for the book. The text gives you sample "suggestions!" Be conscious of the Big Ideas as you prepare your activities (Fluency, Phonics, Vocabulary,Comprehension).
4. You will post your work on your section of the course wiki. Be Creative!
5. THE FOLLOWING NEEDS TO BE POSTED!
  • A Picture of the book posted at the top of the page, including the name of the author
  • Learning Standards for "each activity" (posted on the page above the activity) Directions - with a link to Common Core Standards.
  • CLEARLY WRITTEN DESCRIPTION posted on the wiki of what the students are expected to do
  • CLEARLY WRITTEN DESCRIPTION of how you will assess
  • A Web 2.0 Tool for each "section" -the tool must be ready to use. If you are using Quizlet, the actual activities pertaining to your book must be already loaded
into the Quizlet, which should then be embeded onto your page. This means that you will use a Web 2.0 Tool for one of the three Anticipation Activities, a tool
for one of the three Building Activities, and a tool for one of the three Consolidation Activities. Look at the reviews written by your classmates or choose a tool from the Web 2.0 List.

6. Some of your activities might include: (these are just possibilities-BE CREATIVE-you have great ideas, now is the time to show them off!)
a. adding a link to a page that shows a map of the country, embedding a map of a route...or anything else that will provide background knowledge (Anticipation Activity)
b. Creating a vocabulary Quiz (Anticipation Activity)
c. Creating and uploading an Anticipation Guide (Anticipation Activity)
d. Writing higher-level discussion questions on a Voicethread or on Blabberize for students to respond to during reading. (You must have a sample Voicethread or Blabberize of the book embedded) (Building Knowledge)
e. Creating and Uploading a Slideshow/go animate/ cartoon summary/new thoughts of the book (you must have a sample tool using the book embedded) (Consolidation Activity)
f. Book Extensions...Anything else creative that helps students understand the story and demonstrates new thinkings/dispositions now

7. Kidspiration is a mindmapping program just like inspiration or Webspiration. Kidspiration can be downloaded for a 30=day free trial. Do not download it until you are ready to work on your project. http://www.inspiration.com/Freetrial
If you use Kidspiration you will need to EXPORT/SAVE your kidspiration as a .kid document and also as a .jpg (2 ways) Then upload both to the wiki and post the actual picture on the page and include a link to the .kid document. In doing this, your classmates not only see the document, but they can actually download it for future use. If you prefer to use a different mapping tool, the same rule applies.

CAUTION: When uploading your documents, be sure to use your book name. If 3 of you upload a document and name it character web, when you are ready to place it on your wiki, the wiki will not know which one is yours, resulting in another classmate's character web on your page. If you have a character web for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, put the name or the initials like DOAWK so you know which one is yours. This has happened in the past!

8. When you are ready to post your work...
  • Create a NEW PAGE on our Course wiki
  • Title the page with your last name ex. Nash Storybook
  • When posting your work, write the words Anticipation Activities, Building Knowledge Activities, Consolidating Activities, above each part of your work.
  • After posting the activities for the Anticipation Activities, include an Assessment section and write how you will Assess knowledge of the Anticipation activities. Do the same for the Building Knowledge and the Consolidation Activity sections. There should be a total of 3 Assessments

I have opened the Fall Wiki so that you can get a better idea of how the project is to be organized. Please understand that directions and expectations are a little different every semester. Make sure you are following the guidelines and paying attention to the criteria for this semester.
